The teeth on the zipper don't come together for about 1/4 of an inch. The zipper is ok above and below this spot and nothing wrong with the zipper pull. I can unzip the door about three feet before I come to the bad spot. I can't pull the zipper past this spot.
Any ideas?

try soap to make it slide better but it sounds like your in for a new zipper if thats the case take the tent to someone who dose upholstery work they have the sewing machine that could fix it

How do you remove a zipper that is stick at the top of the jacket?
The bottom of the zipper track parted and now the zipper mechanism is lodged at the top of the zipper tracks and the tracks are wide open except at the top. I don't know how to get the zipper off without tearing the cloth or bending the zipper..is there a tool or trick to it?

My cousin and i were play fighting and she ripped open my sweater causing the zipper (the part that zippers it up) to go on the opposite side that it should be on. Is there a way i can re-attach the zipper?

If all the teeth are still there and it is the kind of zipper that separates completly into two halfs when you unzip it you could try the following.
If you haven't already done this, first pull the zipper apart so that your sweater is unzipped. Pull the slider down the zipper until it comes off completly.
Go to the collar of the sweater and examine the end of the zipper track, there should be a small metal end stop over the end of the zipper track to prevent the zipper from coming off when you zip it all the way to the top.
Using a small screw driver or other small implement and maybe some pliers carefully remove the end stop from the zipper track on the side that the slider belongs and discard it.
You should now be able to slide it back onto the zipper track and move it back down to the bottom where it belongs. If the end of the zipper track is sewn into the collar it may be necessary to unpick it and sew it back in.
All things being well you should be able to zip it back up normally. If the end stop is still intact on the other track you should be able to still zip it all the way without the slider coming off.

You have some damaged teeth in the zipper run which allow the zipper to slide off track. In this case your only choice is to replace the zipper or not zip over this section.
A bend in the zipper at just the right angle caused the two teeth to split allowing the rest to follow and open up the zipped area. If there is no permenant damage to the zipper teeth on either side, rub a lead pencil over the teeth to reduce the friction against the teeth and work the zipper down to the bottom of sweater and try to re-zip.
You can't 'repair' a zipper, but at the same time all split zippers aren't damaged. Some companies just make lousy zippers!

Where can I find a zipper that is longer than 36"?
I'm looking for some sort of online store that sells zippers. The kind of zippers that you can work with, sew into things, etc. I'm hoping for something that is 4-5 feet long or 48"-60" long, because I'm making a guitar case for a friend.

And I'm and pretty sure there is one that is 24 inches and at my store the special foot attachment is on a hook hanging above the display. The joanns web site doesn't have either the 24 inch zipper or the foot. but if you check you phone book you can call and check before you dive to one.

YKK zippers are mass-produced by YKK Company Limited (name of manufacturer and distributor). The YKK are the initials of the founder of the company; I dont think his name is relevant but just so you know..the YKK are actually initials for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Quite a mouthful... huh?!

Lower brands find it cost effective to use these zippers which are distributed worldwide; mainly for the use of seamtresses and tailors. So if your zipper has YKK on it, maybe the very clothes you are wearing were cheaply made and mass produced for the poor to middle man to afford. Chances are you would be able to tell the difference unless you check the zip.
As cheaply as this product is made, the irony of it all is that this YKK zip actually has look-alikes/ counterfeits on the market. So the question is which zips are the genuine YKK??? *sigh* I guess will never know.

What is the logic behind the fact that ladies shirt buttons or zippers have different direction from the men?
As well as for ease of dressing, men's shirts and zippers are lapped on the right from when they used to carry swords. As most men were right-handed, their swords were on their left, and so the lapping of fastenings meant that if the sword brushed the clothing, it would skim over the fastenings rather than getting caught in them and causing injury.
Just as a random piece of info, swords are also the reason horses are mounted from the left.

What is the logic behind the fact that ladies shirt buttons or zippers have different direction from the men?
As well as for ease of dressing, men's shirts and zippers are lapped on the right from when they used to carry swords. As most men were right-handed, their swords were on their left, and so the lapping of fastenings meant that if the sword brushed the clothing, it would skim over the fastenings rather than getting caught in them and causing injury.
Just as a random piece of info, swords are also the reason horses are mounted from the left.

Is the zipper stuck, and not hung up on some of the cloth? If so you can put a small screwdriver in the slot of the slider and spread it just a bit. You could loosen it, slide both sliders to the bottom and gently squeeze the slider back in shape.

I have this Nike backpack I've had for about 7-8 years now, I really like it but the zipper is broken on it...for some reason, the zippers are together but they just won't zip it up. When it first started, I had to keep going over the unzipped part until it would zip up...and now it's so bad that I can't get any of it to zip. I have to keep the two zippers together and pull them really hard and fast at an angle to try to get the zipper to lock up.

I washed my hoodie a few days ago and just took it out of the dryer and the part that zippers up is wavy instead of straight like it should be.

It means that the material the zipper is sewed to has shrunk. You may be able to stretch it a little by wetting it again and gently stretching it out. You could also try ironing it when it is wet, using a warm iron.
When you wash your hoodies, make sure they are zipped, use only cool water, and if you put them in the dryer, do so only on the gentle setting with not too much heat and hang them to finish drying. Letting them dry flat would be even better, but most of us do not have the patience for that. Best of luck with it.

Yes, WD40 fill fix the problem but if surfing will still be something you would be doing often... you might still need to use WD40 again

Splitting Zippers?
Does anyone know a home remedy for fixing splitting zippers? (Where you zip it up, and it splits open?) Your help is appreiciated! ps, I saw a seamstress do it, but I don't know how!

It wouldn't be trendy, but it would definitely be unique -- which I think is ten times better. Trendy is overrated; why would you want to wear something that hundreds of other girls are wearing? Following trends too closely isn't cool, it just shows a total lack of imagination. What is cool is coming up with your own style that incorporates a couple of trends, but isn't a complete copycat look.
Real style is all about wearing things that look good on you. Do not make the mistake of becoming a fashion clone.
I think the zippers would be very interesting. Depending on how you style it and what you wear with it, you could rock a lot of different looks. Like one of the answerers mentioned, you could try using different colored zippers. Or you might want to use black zippers for a more subtle effect. However, if you are using that many zippers perhaps stitching them vertically and parallel onto an A line skirt (narrow at the waist, wider at the thighs and knees) would be cute. Imagine the entire edge of the skirt being a one row of zippers and then above that row, stitching another row of (smaller?) zippers. You would create a ruffled edge of zippers.
The skirt material would have to be fairly thick because the metal edge is going to weight it down. I

I got this really cool reversible ski jacket, but the entire zippertrack needs to be replaced. So I need a heavy duty, sports style, REVERSIBLE zipper (the kind with a pull tab on both sides of the toggle). I went to several crafts / fabric / sewing supply stores, but the longest ones they have are only 24". I need a 32" one. Any stores or websites that sell them?

Jeep Wranglers with soft-tops have about 5 zippers that have to be repaired one for the door windows whch take a 8 c and the back and side windows which take a 10c: Coil zipper windows always have problems either not closing or slider or part breaking:: regards Connie

ya i guess you can but you have to find someone who will deal with those big things. however if your top is just junk and you need a new one id just buy a new one cuz sometimes its way way cheaper then taking it to someone whos gonna fix it and charge you an arm and a leg. or if your jeep still has the original manufacturers warranty they will replace it for you because the soft top isnt a wear and tear item they replaced mine when my back windows zipper got stuck. but again check some sort of reupholster place for cars or even a boat top repair place if you can find one of those since boat tops and jeep tops are close to the same thing.

I also purchased a complete Smittybuilt replacement top for around $200.
This is about 10% of what the dealer wants. Bestop is a great product, however, Smittybuilt uses a heavier material.

Buttons are nice because they don't snag as easily...but on the other hand, if they're poorly sewn on they fall off, and sometimes they won't stay closed. Zippers are good because they're more likely to stay shut...but on the other hand, they snag, and one funky part (like a broken/missing tooth) in it will render the whole thing useless. Basically, I don't prefer one over the other, so I just have both.

Odd Question...Which do you prefer on your childs clothing; velcro, snaps, buttons, or zippers?
I know it seams (pun intended) like an odd question but it directly relates to the other question I asked about measuring your baby poll since I%26#039;m working on drafting a pattern.

Snaps, its easy and quick, even more so when the child is young and they are fighting the whole getting dressed thing. Buttons take too long and can come undone in an active child, Velcro just won%26#039;t stay together, and zippers again, the whole active child thing lol

In ANSWER to your question, the zipper can be replaced. This same thing happened to me 27 years ago on a new tent I used for camping on the beach, sand in the zipper! I took it back to the warranty service shop, and they told me that sand wasn%26#039;t covered, but the girls said since I was with a woman, they would replace the zipper for free, and did a darn good job of it! I am still evaluating the experience and still use the tent! Perhaps you can talk a girlfriend into accompanying you to the shop..........Regards, Larry.

WD 40 is an ok product but stands for water displacement and it took them 40 times to get the formula the way they wanted it. Liquid wrench is more of a penatraiting lubricant. If it%26#039;s a nylon zipper you may try liquid dish washing soap and a hole lot of jiggling back and forth.

Weird question: I have a couple of favorite sweaters, but the zippers on them give off a coppery, rusty smell that infuses the fabric regardless of how I have the garments cleaned. Try pinning the zipper in first, then sewing over the pins with a needle and thread, then when you are satisfied with the way it looks you can sew with the machine. Try not to tug at the material. try not to be scared. Or be scared and do it anyway.
Start with cheap material on an easy skirt. Sew up the seam to where the zipper is supposed to go then put it in the way I showed you. Then join the other seams, its much easier when everything is flat and not joined up first.
