Why do zippers have a "YKK" on them?

almost every zipper I have ever seen has one.

Why do zippers have a "YKK" on them?
As are most things that are mass produced (either in made in China or Japan), this product originates in Japan.

YKK zippers are mass-produced by YKK Company Limited (name of manufacturer and distributor). The YKK are the initials of the founder of the company; I dont think his name is relevant but just so you know..the YKK are actually initials for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Quite a mouthful... huh?!

Lower brands find it cost effective to use these zippers which are distributed worldwide; mainly for the use of seamtresses and tailors. So if your zipper has YKK on it, maybe the very clothes you are wearing were cheaply made and mass produced for the poor to middle man to afford. Chances are you would be able to tell the difference unless you check the zip.

As cheaply as this product is made, the irony of it all is that this YKK zip actually has look-alikes/ counterfeits on the market. So the question is which zips are the genuine YKK??? *sigh* I guess will never know.

PS. Some clothing manufacturers such as Levi's and LAND prefer to keep their trademark even on the very zips in their jeans.

High-end fashion lines such as Fendi, Prada and the ever popular Louis Vuitton also have thier own trademark zips as these names are not to be categorised with the "common-class" types.
Reply:It's the manufacturer of the zipper.
Reply:name brand of the manufacturer...
Reply:my zipper has levi's engraved on it
Reply:Huh, you're right, all my jeans to do. What's with that?
Reply:They don't. The bottom right leg of a K got scratched off of the first K so it looks like a Y. It is a sumbliminal message to join the KKK. That's why you shouldn't wear zippers. I'll never join you, you racist freaks! NEVER!
Reply:YKK is a brand of zippers produced in china. It's like the zipper logo
Reply:it's the company that makes them. they still have the patent.
Reply:A YKK factory site in Macon, Ga., produces 7 million zippers a day, in a total of 1,500 styles in more than 427 standard colors. It's the largest zipper factory in the world. The Macon site produces its own brass to make the teeth and slider parts of a zipper. The same factory also produces and dyes the yarn that is woven into the fabric portion of a zipper. And YKK also produces the machines that make the zippers! YKK has leveraged its knowledge of working with metals to form an aluminum building products division that now accounts for two-thirds of YKK's worldwide sales
Reply:That's the company who makes them.
